MY AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT WORKING! What Can I check?
Is the thermostat turned to cool, and dialed down so that the system is calling for cooling? Is the outside unit coming on? If not, check the breaker in the breaker box. You may need to turn it off and turn it back on to reset it. Also check the disconnect box on the outside of the house by the unit to make sure it is in the on position as well. If your outside unit is running, but the inside is not, make sure that the power switch on the side of the furnace is turned on.
To reset the system, turn it off for about 5 secs, then back on. Also make sure that the furnace doors are on securely. If everything seems to be running, but the system is just not blowing cold air, you will need to check your furnace filter. If it is too dirty, it restricts the airflow and causes the coil to freeze up. The same situation can occur if the outside unit is too dirty as well.
Use your garden hose to clean the outside coils of any dirt, grass clippings, or cottonwood fuzz. If you think your unit has frozen up, you will need to turn it off and allow it to thaw for several hours before turning it back on. During this time you will notice lots of water running down around the furnace area, and possible hear chunks of ice falling from the coil.
If you are still experiencing a service problem or feel you may need to have a checkup from one of our professional team members.
